BarCamp Hong Kong: An excellent opportunity to meet and learn

The first time ever BarCamp is going to launch December 15, 2007. If you “hao qi bao bao” (好奇寶寶,curious girl) like me, I strongly recommend you to join in. You wouldn’t regret about it.

What is BarCamp?

BarCamp is an ad-hoc unconference born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.

It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees. Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

Who should join BarCamp?

In keeping with the spirit of BarCamp, the event is open to everyone. But, in order to get the word out, we’ve identified the following initial list of invitees.

Feel free to add to it:

Designers, programmers, project managers, students. entrepreneurs, bloggers, marketeers, artists, musicians (sound engineers), film makers, anyone in mobile, photographers, advertisers, media agencies, brand managers, iptv, web content, tv, gamers, game developers & designers, media owners, free culture people…

Is BarCamp for foreigner only? If I couldn’t speak English, what should I do?

In keeping with the original nature of Barcamp, we will not have a set structure for the talks.

However, in order to open the participation up to non-English speakers, there will be the option to present in Cantonese, Mandarin or English. Up to you which one you join and how you contribute. No interpreters will be formally provided.

What are the rules?

Rules of BarCamp

* 1st Rule: You do talk about Bar Camp.
* 2nd Rule: You do blog about Bar Camp.
* 3rd Rule: If you want to present, you must write your topic and name in a presentation slot.
* 4th Rule: Only three word intros.
* 5th Rule: As many presentations at a time as facilities allow for.
* 6th Rule: No pre-scheduled presentations, no tourists.
* 7th Rule: Presentations will go on as long as they have to or until they run into another presentation slot.
* 8th Rule: If this is your first time at BarCamp, you HAVE to present. (Ok, you don’t really HAVE to, but try to find someone to present with, or at least ask questions and be an interactive participant.)

How’s the event being structured?

Main event will be held on a Saturday with two ice-breaker events, a social mixer on the Friday night (December 14,2007) in a local bar and a Yum Cha – Dim Sum breakfast on the Saturday morning from 8 am to 9:30 a.m.

The idea is to have 30 minutes per session. Sessions start at 10 a.m., break for lunch from noon to 1pm, continue from 1pm to 5pm. That gives a total of 48 sessions.
