Lenovo Blogger Meeting

Talking about bloggers, some people may think that they are hard to deal with, some people may think that they have their own language and people outside of their circle won’t be able to talk to them.  But they are all wrong, bloggers are fun, lovely, willing to help and cheerful.  Therefore Lenovo invited we bloggers to their new IdeaPad Lite S9/S10 product launch event.  This was also the 1st time that a large scale computer hardware company started their conversation with bloggers in Hong Kong.  This is a good sign reflecting Hong Kong bloggers slowly develop their influence in the society as well as in media industry.  By the way I did plan to apply the olympic media pass but I do not have enough annual leave so I didn’t do it.

IdeaPad S9

During the event, Lenovo introduced their new product line IdeaPad S9, S10 and some other notebooks as well. I am not going to talk about the tech specs here cause I am not good at hardware, but I am impressed about their event arrangement.  An official product introduction followed by models catwalk show and lucky draw, not spending too much time but the presentation was effective.  And thanks to Lenovo, I got a S9 notebook from the lucky draw!!!!!  In fact I just get rid of my EeePC 701 recently and I need a replacement, this is just perfect for me.  I wish I can have a pink S9 and continue to be a pink blogger with my pink Sony T2 and pink iPhone porch.  The stylish S9 come with 5 colours and Lenovo is going to launch a special “Buy 2 get 3” promotion on August 20.  “$2.9k x 2 = 3 notebooks = 1 notebook/$1.9k” is very attractive indeed.  Really worth considering if you and your friends or family want to buy new notebooks.

I am trying to upload the models video to Youtube but it is taking too much time, still uploading >_< You may check out my YouTube channel later on.

Update: The upload finished!

HKPUG 10 Anniversary & EeePC Gathering

Yesterday I went to the “HKPUG 10 Anniversary & EeePC Gathering” organized by Hong Kong PDA User Group. It was such a long time ago that I were in the executive committee……and time passes by……

Just the same as any other organization, HKPUG got it’s high and low tides while there are so many political/human issues going on. I am not doing any “secret reveal” here and I were not feeling “the heat” when people told me this and that. Maybe I am too old or not being passionate as all……

Anyway, I do enjoy playing EeePC together with a bunch of friends, such as Sidekick and Ben Lee. The FON router signal in Wan Chai is very strong, I could check GMail and Bloglines as usual while the EeePC presenter were not able to get a signal on his “whatever wi-fi”. FON just added 300+ hotspots, in fact everyone should get a FON because 3G and HSPDA are still expensive nowadays. Don’t ask me if the presentation is good or not, cause I neither want to tell a lie nor the truth. No comment is always good comment.

I took some photos.

As EeePC is getting more popular in Hong Kong, I have a feeling that if the 3.5G iPhone won’t come in Hong Kong quicker, there must be more people to buy EeePC, cause I am one of them. Well, maybe I am to naive to make such a conclusion 😛 Anyway, EeePC is good as my desktop computer just died while my Dell computer is still on the way to be delivered. I am using EeePC for my everything now and it fulfills 90% of my daily tasks except typing Chinese. I love my EeePC and it is one of my best investment in 2007.

My Asus Eee PC Extra Spending

After I got my Eee PC, money keeps flying.

Here we go:

1. 2GB Ram Upgrade = $600
Don’t ask me why it was so expensive or what, I am not hardware girl and can’t do this, so even it is expensive, I have to chew with it.

2. 8GB Transcend SDHC Class 6 card = $478
For your reference 4GB is $258

3. Screen Protector with perfect installation = $180
Well, the money for screen protector was really worth to pay as the shopkeeper opened 2 new screen protector and worked on it for 20 minutes or more. It was because the 1st screen protector got some defect therefore he opened a 2nd one and carefully installed it for me, without any extra charges.

I also checked out the mobile phone protector shop, if I have to wrap a Eee PC in plastic (which is for the cover only, battery and other parts are not included) the cost is HK$358. This is far too expensive and I really don’t want to pay for it. If anyone just have a better suggestion, please let me know.

I am basically broke now but this kind of shopping behaviors remind me of the good old days when I were in Palmpilot User Group. Each time when I brought a new Palm, I needed to purchase screen protector, leather case and stylus……my money was all gone because of these gadgets. And that’s why I am very poor now, bad 😦

My New Toy – Asus Eee PC Pink

Yesterday night I brought a new toy – Eee PC Surf 4GB Pink version. Yes, I am an old lady who loves cute stuff, so what? I am even willing to forfeit the webcam in order to stick with the Hello Kitty style pinkish color (as the regular Black/White Eee PC got webcam but the “colored version” has everything except a cam). I plan to put some mobile phone shinny sticker onto the machine as well……maybe in the shape of Cinnamonroll 🙂

Although many Eee PC users install Windows XP instead of using the Eee PC pre-installed Unix system, I don’t feel like doing this because the linux interface is quite easy to understand and straight forward. The only problem to solve is the QCode Input Method for Chinese that I have been using for 10years, the company who develops it does not provide linux version. Which means I have to find people to do some tricks or try out other alternatives.

I enjoy learning “new stuff” via new gadget. If not because of Eee PC, I would never install linux and play around with it all by myself. And this new piece of toy to me is just like a new boyfriend, his strength and weakness is yet to be found out, but I am devoted to the honeymoon.
